SECTION 2: Hazards identification
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW Nearly odorless gray non-flammable water-based paint of boron nitride. Mildly caustic. Exposure to the eyes may be corrosive and exposure to skin may be irritating. Inhalation of paint mist or of outgassing fumes evolved during first heating of the coating to 600 °C may be irritating to the respiratory tract. Dried paint on walkways is slippery and presents a slip hazard.
Principle Routes of Exposure
Contact to eyes and skin, inhalation of paint mist TARGET ORGANS: Eyes, skin and respiratory system. EYE: Corrosive burns. SKIN CONTACT: Mild skin irritation. SKIN ABSORPTION: N/A INGESTION: Irritation, possible injury to gastrointestinal tract. INHALATION: Irritation to upper respiratory system. ACUTE EFFECTS: Paint is mildly caustic (pH above 7) and is corrosive to the eyes on contact, and irritating to the skin on prolonged contact. Mists from the product generated by air- spraying is irritating to the upper respiratory system, as well as are the outgassing products (if concentrated) that are generated by the first heating of the coating to 600 °C.
Potential chronic health
Excessive inhalation of dust above TLV of dried material over long periods of time may cause industrial bronchitis, reduced breathing capacity and lead to increased susceptibility to lung disease. CARCINOGENICITY: The Acrylic used at 5% by weight of the liquid paint. Contains less than 0.05% Formaldehyde CAS 50-0-0. Formaldehyde is listed by the national toxicology program and the international agency for research on cancer as a potential cancer causing agent.
