SECTION 2: Hazards identification

OSHA HCS 2012 EMERGENCY OVERVIEW: Blackish-brown granules with no noticeable odor. Particles may cause mechanical irritation to the eyes. Based on currently available data, this product does not meet the regulatory definition of a hazardous substance. However, good industrial hygiene practices should be used in handling the product.

Potential health effects

Eyes: Moderately irritating to eyes. Skin: May cause mild skin irritation. Inhalation: Inhalation of dust may cause mild irritation of the upper respiratory tract. Ingestion: May cause upset of the gastric system. Preexisting Conditions: None known

Potential chronic health

Long-term inhalation of coal dust may cause silicosis, a progressive, disabling and sometimes fatal lung disease, and/or coal miner’s pneumoconiosis. Symptoms include cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, non-specific chest illness and reduced pulmonary function.
