Section 2
SECTION 2: Hazards identification
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW: The following data are for the active ingredients carbaryl and metaldehyde.SYMPTOMS OF ACUTE EXPOSURE: Carbaryl causes reversible cholinesterase inhibition. Repeated overexposure may cause more severe cholinesterase inhibition with more pronounced signs and symptoms including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, involuntary shaking, excess salivation, pinpoint pupils, blurred vision, profuse sweating, temporary paralysis, respiratory depression, and convulsions. Overexposure to metaidehyde may cause excessive salivation, vomiting, nausea, acetonuria (odor of acetone on breath),convulsions, increased body temperature, depression of medullary respiratory and vasomotor control centers, and coma. (Because of the low amounts of metaldehyde in the product, it is unlikely the victim can be exposed to sufficient quantities of metaldehyde to have coma or death induced).
Principle Routes of Exposure
Typical routes of exposure are skin or eye contact, ingestion of granules, and inhalation of dusts. CHRONIC OR DELAYED LONG-TERM: This blended product does not contain any ingredients of appreciable quantities that have been designated by IARC, NTP, ACTGIH or OSHA as probable or suspected carcinogens. HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: When decomposed, carbaryl produces NOx, CO, and/or CO2.Metaldehyde produces acetaldehyde at levels less than 0.01%. Acetaldehyde has been listed as a carcinogen by IARC and by NTP. UNUSUAL FIRE, EXPLOSION, AND REACTIVITY HAZARDS: None known. 17 F, Sea view Plaza, No.286 Shau Kei Wan Raod, W Shau Kei Wan, Hong Kong. 1
