CLP CLASSIFICATION
not classified under 1272/2008/EC and extracted from ECHA Classification and Labelling Inventory based on a “Group Entry for Arsenic compounds”. It is not relevant for massive Gallium Arsenide under 1272/2008/EC. Acute Tox. 3 - H301 Toxic if swallowed Acute Tox. 3 - H331 Toxic if inhaled Aquatic Acute 1 - H400 Very Toxic to Aquatic life Aquatic Chronic 1 - H410 Very Toxic to Aquatic life with long lasting effects
EU Classification
Directive 67/548/EEC [DSD] - not classified in 67/548/EEC up to and including 29th ATP prior to transfer to Annex VI of 1272/2008 [CLP]. The substance has previously been classified under “Group Entry classification for Arsenic compounds”. It is not relevant for massive Gallium Arsenide under 67/458/EEC. Toxic by inhalation and if swallowed - R23/25 Very toxic to aquatic organisms. May cause long term adverse effects to aquatic environment. - R50/53
Additional information
The massive form of Gallium Arsenide, marketed as wafers or ingots, is not considered hazardous under Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 or Directive 67/458/EEC. Inhalation, oral and dermal entry routes into the body can effectively be excluded for massive Gallium Arsenide. Additional precautions when handling inhalable dust are outlined later in Section 8.2. A globally harmonized classification for Gallium Arsenide is currently in progress in the EU.
2.2 Label elements
For classified products such as IQE’s compound semiconductor alloys, including Gallium Arsenide, a derogation for labelling exists under Annex 1, section 1.3.4 of CLP (EC/1272/2008), whereby the product in the form in which it is placed on the market is not hazardous to human health by inhalation, ingestion or skin contact or hazardous to the aquatic environment. Any potential hazards and exposure scenarios likely to occur in a production environment are fully covered in section 8 of Labelling according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 [CLP] No labelling applicable
2.3 Other hazards
Inhalation of Gallium Arsenide dust produced during the production process or during thermal treatment may result in some health risks.
