Breathing high concentrations in an enclosed space or by intentional abuse, can cause irregular heartbeats which can cause death. Ingestion Exposure Effects: Poison. Cannot be made non-poisonous. May be fatal or cause blindness. May cause stomach or intestinal upset with pain, nausea, and/or diarrhea. May cause effects as those listed for inhalation. Methanol has caused birth defects in laboratory animals, but only when inhaled at extremely high vapor concentrations. The relevance of this finding to humans is uncertain. 2-Butoxyethanol: In animals, effects have been reported on blood (hemolysis) and secondary effects on the kidney and liver. Human red blood cells have been shown to be significantly less sensitive to hemolysis than those of rodents and rabbits.
