2.3 Other hazards
If the material comes into contact with water or moist air, explosive and toxic gases (phosphine and/or arsine) may be generated. These gases can, when inhaled in small quantities cause headache, nausea and vomiting. In greater doses lung damage can occur. Ferrosilicon particles may under certain conditions cause dust explosions. Use appropriate protective equipment; eye-protection and gloves when handling the material directly and suitable respiratory protection where dust occurs.
