Natural Graphite may contain elements other than carbon. This substance may contain crystalline silica and a variety of quartz. These quartz and silica impurities are naturally occurring and are intercalated within the graphite. This silica in most cases, is not in inhalable unless the natural graphite is very finely milled and separated. There is sufficient evidence that inhaled crystalline silica causes cancer in humans.
