Highly Flammable liquid and vapour
Section 2
SECTION 2: Hazards identification
Emergency Overview Physical State @20°C liquid Color colorless Odor Petroleum solvent Highly flammable liquid and vapor. May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. May cause drowsiness or dizziness. Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Vapors inhaled in strong concentration have a narcotic effect on the central nervous system. The inhalation of vapours or aerosols may be irritating for the respiratory tract and for mucous membranes. If swallowed accidentally, the product may enter the lungs due to its low viscosity and lead to the rapid development of very serious pulmonary lesions (medical survey during 48 hours). Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. May cause central nervous system depression. Incomplete combustion and thermolysis may produce gases of varying toxicity such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, various hydrocarbons, aldehydes and soot. These may be highly dangerous if inhaled in confined spaces or at high concentration.
2.1 Classification of the substance or mixture
Flammable liquids - Category 2 Aspiration toxicity - Category 1 Specific target organ systemic toxicity (single exposure) - Category 3 Acute aquatic toxicity - Category 2 Chronic aquatic toxicity - Category 2

Hazard statements
H225 - Highly flammable liquid and vapor H304 - May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways H336 - May cause drowsiness or dizziness H411 - Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects
Prevention
Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapors/spray • Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area • Avoid release to the environment • Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking • Keep container tightly closed • Use explosion-proof electrical/ ventilating / lighting equipment • Ground/bond container and receiving equipment • Use only non-sparking tools • Take precautionary measures against static discharge • Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection
Response
IF INHALED: Remove person to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing • Call a POISON CENTER/doctor if you feel unwell • IF ON SKIN (or hair): Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/ shower • IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTER/doctor • Do NOT induce vomiting • In case of fire: Use CO2, dry chemical, or foam to extinguish • Collect spillage
Storage
Store locked up • Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep cool • Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep container tightly closed
Precautionary statements
Disposal • Dispose of contents/ container to an approved waste disposal plant
Other physicochemical hazards
Flammable liquids
Health hazards
Inhalation Vapors inhaled in strong concentration have a narcotic effect on the central nervous system. Nausea. The inhalation of vapours or aerosols may be irritating for the respiratory tract and for mucous membranes. Skin contact Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. Eye contact Burning feeling and temporary redness. Ingestion If swallowed accidentally, the product may enter the lungs due to its low viscosity and lead to the rapid development of very serious pulmonary lesions (medical survey during 48 hours). Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. May cause central nervous system depression. Skin corrosion/irritation Not classified based on available data. Serious eye damage/eye irritation Not classified based on available data. Sensitization Not classified as a sensitizer. Carcinogenicity The current toxicological knowledge allows to not classify the product as a carcinogen. Mutagenic effects The mutagenic potential of the substance has been extensively studied in a range of in-vivo and in-vitro assays. Germ Cell Mutagenicity Genetic toxicity : negative. Reproductive toxicity Studies in rats with the substance did not show any effect on reproductive performance. Developmental Toxicity Results of guideline developmental toxicity studies on the substance and OECD developmental toxicity screening studies showed no evidence of developmental toxicity in rats. STOT - single exposure Vapors may cause drowsiness and dizziness. STOT - repeated exposure Not classified based on available data.
Aspiration hazard
May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. The fluid can enter the lungs and cause damage (chemical pneumonitis, potentially fatal).
Environmental hazards
Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
2.3 Other hazards
Vapors may form explosive mixtures with air. The material can accumulate static charge and can therefore cause electrical ignition. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. Should not be released into the environment.
