Highly Flammable liquid and vapour
Section 2
SECTION 2: Hazards identification
Emergency Overview Physical State @20°C liquid Color colorless Odor Petroleum solvent Highly flammable liquid and vapor. May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. Causes skin irritation. May cause drowsiness or dizziness. Suspected of damaging fertility or the unborn child. May cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure. Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. The inhalation of vapours or aerosols may be irritating for the respiratory tract and for mucous membranes. Vapors inhaled in strong concentration have a narcotic effect on the central nervous system. Contact with eyes may cause irritation. If swallowed accidentally, the product may enter the lungs due to its low viscosity and lead to the rapid development of very serious pulmonary lesions (medical survey during 48 hours). Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. May cause central nervous system depression. Incomplete combustion and thermolysis may produce gases of varying toxicity such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, various hydrocarbons, aldehydes and soot. These may be highly dangerous if inhaled in confined spaces or at high concentration.
2.1 Classification of the substance or mixture

Hazard statements
H225 - Highly flammable liquid and vapor H304 - May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways H315 - Causes skin irritation H336 - May cause drowsiness or dizziness H361 - Suspected of damaging fertility or the unborn child H373 - May cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure H411 - Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects
Prevention
Obtain special instructions before use • Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood • Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection • Wash face, hands and any exposed skin thoroughly after handling • Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapors/spray • Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area • Avoid release to the environment • Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking • Keep container tightly closed • Ground/bond container and receiving equipment • Use explosion-proof electrical/ ventilating / lighting equipment • Use only non-sparking tools • Take precautionary measures against static discharge
Response
IF exposed or concerned: Get medical advice/attention • Get medical advice/attention if you feel unwell • IF INHALED: Remove person to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing • If skin irritation occurs: Get medical advice/attention • IF ON SKIN (or hair): Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/ shower • Take off contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse • IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTER/doctor • Do NOT induce vomiting • In case of fire: Use CO2, dry chemical, or foam to extinguish • Collect spillage
Storage
Store locked up • Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep container tightly closed • Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep cool
Precautionary statements
Disposal • Dispose of contents/ container to an approved waste disposal plant
Other physicochemical hazards

Health hazards
Inhalation The inhalation of vapours or aerosols may be irritating for the respiratory tract and for mucous membranes. Vapors inhaled in strong concentration have a narcotic effect on the central nervous system. Eye Irritation, Nausea, loss of consciousness. Skin contact Irritating to skin. Eye contact Not classified based on available data. Burning feeling and temporary redness. Contact with eyes may cause irritation. Ingestion If swallowed accidentally, the product may enter the lungs due to its low viscosity and lead to the rapid development of very serious pulmonary lesions (medical survey during 48 hours). Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. May cause central nervous system depression. Skin corrosion/irritation Causes skin irritation. Serious eye damage/eye irritation Not classified based on available data. Sensitization Not classified as a sensitizer. Carcinogenicity The current toxicological knowledge allows to not classify the product as a carcinogen. Mutagenic effects The mutagenic potential of the substance has been extensively studied in a range of in-vivo and in-vitro assays. Germ Cell Mutagenicity Genetic toxicity : negative. Reproductive toxicity Suspected of damaging fertility or the unborn child. Possible risk of impaired fertility. Developmental Toxicity Results of guideline developmental toxicity studies on the substance and OECD developmental toxicity screening studies showed no evidence of developmental toxicity in rats. STOT - single exposure Vapors may cause drowsiness and dizziness. STOT - repeated exposure May cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure if inhaled.
Aspiration hazard
May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. The fluid can enter the lungs and cause damage (chemical pneumonitis, potentially fatal).
Environmental hazards
Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
2.3 Other hazards
The vapor is invisible, heavier than air and spreads along ground. Vapors may form explosive mixtures with air. The material can accumulate static charge and can therefore cause electrical ignition. Should not be released into the environment.
