Section 2

SECTION 2: Hazards identification

Emergency Overview Physical State @20°C liquid Color colorless Odor Acrid Solvent Highly flammable liquid and vapor. Vapors inhaled in strong concentration have a narcotic effect on the central nervous system. Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Irritating to skin. May cause drowsiness or dizziness. If swallowed accidentally, the product may enter the lungs due to its low viscosity and lead to the rapid development of very serious pulmonary lesions (medical survey during 48 hours). The inhalation of vapours or aerosols may be irritating for the respiratory tract and for mucous membranes. Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.

2.1 Classification of the substance or mixture

Flammable liquids - Category 2 Aspiration toxicity - Category 1 Skin corrosion/irritation - Category 2 Specific target organ systemic toxicity (single exposure) - Category 3 Acute aquatic toxicity - Category 1 Chronic aquatic toxicity - Category 1

Signal word

DANGER

Hazard statements

H225 - Highly flammable liquid and vapor H304 - May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways H315 - Causes skin irritation H336 - May cause drowsiness or dizziness H410 - Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects

Prevention

Wash face, hands and any exposed skin thoroughly after handling • Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapors/spray • Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area • Avoid release to the environment • Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking • Keep container tightly closed • Use explosion-proof electrical/ ventilating / lighting equipment • Ground/bond container and receiving equipment • Use only non-sparking tools • Take precautionary measures against static discharge • Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection

Response

IF INHALED: Remove person to fresh air and keep comfortable for breathing • Call a POISON CENTER/doctor if you feel unwell • If skin irritation occurs: Get medical advice/attention • IF ON SKIN (or hair): Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/ shower • Take off contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse • IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTER/doctor • Do NOT induce vomiting • In case of fire: Use CO2, dry chemical, or foam to extinguish • Collect spillage

Storage

Store locked up • Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep cool • Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep container tightly closed

Precautionary statements

Disposal • Dispose of contents/ container to an approved waste disposal plant

Other physicochemical hazards

Flammable liquids

Health hazards

Inhalation Inhalation of vapors in high concentration may cause irritation of respiratory system. Causes headache, drowsiness or other effects to the central nervous system, Nausea. Skin contact Irritating to skin. Eye contact Vapor may cause irritation. Ingestion If swallowed accidentally, the product may enter the lungs due to its low viscosity and lead to the rapid development of very serious pulmonary lesions (medical survey during 48 hours). Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Skin corrosion/irritation Irritating to skin. Serious eye damage/eye irritation Not classified based on available data. Sensitization Not classified as a sensitizer. Carcinogenicity Not classified based on available data. Mutagenic effects Not classified based on available data. Germ Cell Mutagenicity Not classified based on available data. Reproductive toxicity Not classified based on available data. STOT - single exposure Vapors may cause drowsiness and dizziness. STOT - repeated exposure Not classified based on available data.

Aspiration hazard

May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. The fluid can enter the lungs and cause damage (chemical pneumonitis, potentially fatal).

Environmental hazards

Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.

2.3 Other hazards

The vapours are heavier than air and may carry along the ground giving a high risk of explosion . Friction generated by product discharge can create static charges of sufficient magnitude to cause SPARKS WHICH MAY LEAD TO FIRE OR EXPLOSION. If swallowed accidentally, the product may enter the lungs due to its low viscosity and lead to the rapid development of very serious pulmonary lesions (medical survey during 48 hours). Inhalation of vapors in high concentration may cause anesthesia and irritation of respiratory system. Vapors or mists are irritating for mucous membranes, notably in the eyes. Should not be released into the environment.
