SECTION 2: Hazards identification
Emergency Overview Physical State @20°C liquid Color colorless Odor Hydrocarbon-like May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. Vapors inhaled in strong concentration have a narcotic effect on the central nervous system. The inhalation of vapours or aerosols may be irritating for the respiratory tract and for mucous membranes. If swallowed accidentally, the product may enter the lungs due to its low viscosity and lead to the rapid development of very serious pulmonary lesions (medical survey during 48 hours). Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Incomplete combustion and thermolysis may produce gases of varying toxicity such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, various hydrocarbons, aldehydes and soot.
2.1 Classification of the substance or mixture
Aspiration toxicity - Category 1

Health hazards
Inhalation Vapors inhaled in strong concentration have a narcotic effect on the central nervous system. The inhalation of vapours or aerosols may be irritating for the respiratory tract and for mucous membranes. Skin contact Non-irritating during normal use. Eye contact Not classified based on available data. Ingestion If swallowed accidentally, the product may enter the lungs due to its low viscosity and lead to the rapid development of very serious pulmonary lesions (medical survey during 48 hours). Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Skin corrosion/irritation Not classified based on available data. Serious eye damage/eye irritation Not classified based on available data. Sensitization Not classified as a sensitizer. Carcinogenicity The current toxicological knowledge allows to not classify the product as a carcinogen. Mutagenic effects This product is not classified as mutagenic. Germ Cell Mutagenicity The mutagenic potential of the substance has been extensively studied in a range of in-vivo and in-vitro assays. Genetic toxicity : negative. Reproductive toxicity Studies in rats with the substance did not show any effect on reproductive performance. Developmental Toxicity Results of guideline developmental toxicity studies on the substance and OECD developmental toxicity screening studies showed no evidence of developmental toxicity in rats. STOT - single exposure Not classified based on available data. STOT - repeated exposure Not classified based on available data.
Aspiration hazard
May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. The fluid can enter the lungs and cause damage (chemical pneumonitis, potentially fatal).
Environmental hazards
Not classified based on available data.
2.3 Other hazards
None known Contaminated surfaces will be extremely slippery. If swallowed accidentally, the product may enter the lungs due to its low viscosity and lead to the rapid development of very serious pulmonary lesions (medical survey during 48 hours). Prolonged or repeated contact may cause skin irritation. Should not be released into the environment.
