Potential health effects
See Section 11 for toxicological data.) EYE: Essentially non-irritating to eyes. SKIN CONTACT: Essentially non-irritating the to skin. Prolonged skin contact is unlikely to result in absorption of harmful amounts. Skin contact may cause an allergic skin reaction. INGESTION: Low toxicity if swallowed. Small amounts swallowed incidental to normal handling operations are not likely to cause injury; however, swallowing larger amounts may cause injury. (Continued on page 2 , over) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Aspiration into the lungs may occur during ingestion or vomiting, causing lung damage or even death due to chemical pneumonia. INHALATION: Excessive exposure to solvent(s) may cause respiratory irritation and central nervous system depression. Symptoms may include headache, dizziness and drowsiness, progressing to incoordination and unconsciousness. SYSTEMIC AND OTHER EFFECTS: Repeated excessive exposures to high amounts may cause anesthetic or narcotic effect (due to solvent). Repeated excessive exposures to smaller amounts may cause irritation to eyes and respiratory tract (due to solvent). In animals, acetone has been shown to cause kidney effects. In animals, acetone has been shown to cause liver, blood, and testicular effects only at very high doses.
Cancer information
Acetone did not cause cancer in long-term animal studies. Many studies have been conducted to assess the potential carcinogenicity of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBPA). Although some weak evidence of carcinogenicity has has been reported in animals, when all of the data are considered, the weight of evidence does not show that DGEBPA is carcinogenic. Indeed, the most recent review of the available data by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has concluded that DGEBPA is not classified as a carcinogen. TERATOLOGY (BIRTH DEFECTS): Contains component(s) which did not cause birth defects in animals; other fetal effects occurred only at doses toxic to the mother. REPRODUCTIVE EFFECTS: Contains component(s) which did not interfere with reproduction in animal studies.
