Principle Routes of Exposure
Exposure will most likely occur though skin or eye contact Exposure to hydrogen sulphide can result in irritation to eyes and respiratory tract. Hydrogen sulphide acts as a cellular poison and overexposure may result in loss of consciousness and possible death. Flammable Solid; contact with product at elevated temperatures can result in thermal burns to the eye. Contact with molten material can cause severe burns. Bond and ground transfer containers and equipment to avoid static accumulation. During storage or transit, hydrogen sulphide may accumulate in enclosed spaces. Open containers / hatches with caution. Fire and Explosion data Flash Point: method Cleveland open cup> 1680C Flammable Limits Note: (% Vol. In air) Fine sulphur dust is explosive in the range of 35 – 1400g/m3 dust in air. Auto Ignition Temperature: 1900C. (as fine dust) Fire Extinguishing Media: Dry chemical, carbon dioxide, water spray, fog or foam according to manufacturer’s recommended application technique. Hazardous Combustion Toxic sulphur oxide (SOx) fumes produced in fire. Products: Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: Transported as hot liquid. May be ignited by heat, sparks, or flames. May burn fiercely. Accumulations of dust in and around process equipment may explode or burn with explosive violence. May reignite after fire is extinguished. Special Fire Fighting Procedures: Evacuate all unnecessary personnel to upwind positions. Full face, positive-pressure, self-contained breathing apparatus and appropriate protective clothing (Chemical and heat-resistance) must be worn by all individuals required to enter hazard area. Avoid straight streams of water, which will scatter molten sulphur and dust. Move containing vessels from fire area if without risk. Cool containing vessels with flooding quantities of water until well after fire is out. 5. HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION Effects of acute and chronic over exposure: Inhalation: Sulphur fumes or dust may be generated if molten material cools and can cause irritation to mucous membranes of the nose, throat and upper respiratory tract. Small amounts of sulphur dioxide may be released from hot, molten sulphur. Sulphur dioxide is a strong respiratory irritant. Symptoms of exposure to sulphur dust or sulphur dioxide include: burning sensation or sore throat, coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, headache, nausea and vomiting. Eyes: Contact with molten sulphur will cause severe burns and permanent damage to eye tissue. Sulphur dust will cause eye irritation. Skin: Contact with molten sulphur will severely burn unprotected skin. Sulphur dust can cause skin irritation especially when in contact with hot, perspiring skin. Exposure will most likely occur through skin or eye contact Formulation: Hydrogen sulphide gas may be released from this material. Irritancy: Contact with hot product may result in thermal burns. Acute Toxicity: Exposure to hydrogen sulphide can result in irritation to eyes and respiratory tract. Hydrogen sulphide acts as a cellular poison and overexposure may result in loss of consciousness and possible death.

Environmental effects
Do not allow product or runoff from fire control to enter storm or sanitary sewers, lakes, rivers, stream, or public waterways. Block off drains and ditches. Provincial regulations require and federal regulation may require that environmental and/or other agencies be notified of a spill incident. Spill area must be cleaned and restored to original condition or to the satisfaction of authorities. Biodegradability: Not available.
