Potential health effects
Prolonged or repeated eye contact may cause conjunctivitis. (Acute and Chronic): Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause dermatitis. Chronic exposure may cause effects similar to those of acute exposure. Effects may be delayed. Inhalation: Harmful if inhaled. Inhalation of a mist of this material may cause respiratory tract irritation. Skin Contact: Causes skin irritation. Harmful if absorbed through the skin. Substance is rapidly absorbed through the skin. A skin notation is not recommended by ACGIH, based on estimates from physiologically based pharmacokinetic models which indicate that, even in worst-case dermal-exposure scenarios, 2-butoxyethanol is not absorbed in amounts sufficient to cause red blood cell hemolysis in humans. Eye Contact: Causes eye irritation. Causes redness and pain. Contact may cause ulceration of the conjunctiva and cornea. Eye damage may be delayed. When substance becomes wet or comes in contact with moisture of the mucous membranes, it will cause irritation. May cause chemical conjunctivitis and corneal damage. Ingestion: Harmful if swallowed. May cause burns to the digestive tract. Causes gastrointestinal tract burns. Causes severe digestive tract burns with abdominal pain, vomiting, and possible death. May cause systemic effects.
