Section 2
SECTION 2: Hazards identification
POTENTIAL ACUTE [single or short term] HEALTH EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE Eye : May cause eye irritation. Symptoms may include stinging, tearing, and redness. Can cause moderate irritation. May cause painful sensitization to light. Inhalation, ingestion or skin absorption of this material (or one of its components) can cause significant disturbances in vision, including blindness. Skin : Skin contact may cause irritation. Symptoms may include redness, discomfort, drying and cracking, or rash. Causes moderate skin irritation. Passage of this material into the body through the skin is possible, and may add to the harmful effects from breathing and swallowing. Repeated contact can cause defatting, cracking, and dermatitis. This material (or a component) can be absorbed through the skin producing systemic effects that include visual disturbances. Ingestion : Swallowing small amounts during handling is not likely to cause harmful effects. Swallowing large amounts may be harmful. This material can enter the lungs during swallowing or vomiting and cause lung inflammation and/or damage. May be fatal or cause blindness if swallowed. This material is an aspiration hazard. Cannot be made non-poisonous. May cause systemic toxicity with acidosis. If swallowed symptoms may include: Gastrointestinal irritation (such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea). Central nervous system effects (dizziness, drowsiness, weakness, fatigue, nausea, headache, unconsciousness). Advanced stages may cause collapse, unconsciousness, coma, and possible death due to respiratory failure. Inhalation : Breathing small amounts during handling is not likely to cause harmful effects. Breathing large amounts may be harmful. Symptoms are more typically seen at air concentrations exceeding the recommended exposure limits. Symptoms of exposure may include: initial Central Nervous System excitation (euphoria, exhilaration, light-headedness) followed by CNS depression (dizziness, drowsiness, weakness, fatigue, nausea, headache, unconsciousness) and other CNS effects, such as confusion, impaired coordination, coma, and death. Inhalation of concentrations above the recommended limits may cause CNS depression with anesthetic effects such as dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, & incoordination. A time period with no obvious symptoms may follow (typically 8-24 hrs). This latent period is followed by metabolic acidosis and sever visual effects, which may include reduced reactivity and/or increased sensitivity to light, blurred, doubled and/or snowy vision, and blindness. Depending on the severity of exposure and the promptness of treatment, survivors may recover completely or may have permanent blindness, vision disturbances and/or nervous system effects. POTENTIAL CHRONIC [long term] HEALTH EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE: General Effects: This material (or a component) has been shown to cause harm to the fetus in laboratory animal studies. Harm to the fetus occurs only at exposure levels that harm the pregnant animal. The relevance of these findings to humans is uncertain. Acute lethal exposures in animal studies of a product component has resulted in congestion of organs including kidney, spleen and lungs. This material (or a component) has been shown to cause birth defects in laboratory animal studies. This occurs only when inhaled at extremely high vapor concentrations. Overexposure to this material (or its components) has been suggested as a cause of the following effects in laboratory animals: mild, reversible liver effects. mild, reversible kidney effects. blood abnormalities.
Cancer information
THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS NO COMPONENTS LISTED AS CARCINOGENIC BY IARC, NTP, OR OSHA 1910(Z) Based on available information, this material cannot be classified with regard to carcinogenicity. This material is not listed as a carcinogen with IARC, NTP or OSHA. Mutagenicity: Laboratory experiments have resulted in mutagenic effects.
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure
OVEREXPOSURE Skin contact may aggravate an existing dermatitis. Chronic exposure may cause reproductive diorders and teratogenic effects. Prolonged exposure may cause liver, kidney, pancreas, lungs, brain and heart damage.
