POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS: ACUTE: Inhalation of dust particulate may cause mild irritation of upper respiratory tract and lungs. CHRONIC: Long-term (2 year) inhalation exposure by rats to sodium polyacrylate that had been micronized to a respirable particle size (less than 10 microns) produced non-specific inflammation and chronic lung injury at 0.2mg/m3 and 0.8mg/m3• At 0.8 mg/m3, lung tumors were seen in some animals. In the absence of chronic inflammation, tumors are not expected. There were no adverse effects of any kind at 0.05mg/m3. MEDICAL CONDITIONS May aggravate existing respiratory conditions; AGGRAVATED BY may also aggravate existing skin conditions due EXPOSURE: to drying effect. ROUTES OF ENTRY: Inhalation; ingestion EXPOSURE LIMITS: OSHA PEL: PEL for respirable fraction of nuisance dust is 5mg/m3. ACGIH TLV: TLV for respirable particulate, not otherwise classified, is 3mg/m3. 4. FIRST AID MEASURES INHALATION: Remove to fresh air. If persistent irritation, coughing or breathing difficulties occur, get medical attention. EYE CONTACT: Flush with water. If irritation persists or flushing is inadequate, get medical attention. SKIN CONTACT: Wash skin with mild soap and water. If a rash, persistent irritation or dermatitis occur, get medical attention. RevIsIon: 1.0-US Page: 3 Date Prepared: 2010.08.05 Product: sorb ion sachet INGESTION: Get medical attention if any related symptoms occur after accidental ingestion. 5. FIRE & EXPLOSION HAZARD DATA FLASHPOINT: N/A FLAMMABLE! LEL = see explosion hazards EXPLOSIVE LIMITS IN AIR: UEL = n!a FIRE FIGHTING Extinguish with water stream, fog, dry chemical or INSTRUCTIONS: other agents suitable for Class A fires. FIRE FIGHTING Do not use water jet. Dust explosion hazard may EQUIPMENT: result from forceful application of fire extinguishing agents. EXPLOSION HAZARDS: Depending on moisture content, particle diameter and rate of heating cellulose dust may explode in the presence of an ignition source. An airborne concentration of 30.000 mg/m3 is considered often as LEL for cellulose pulp. Dust of this product suspended in air is flammable and poses a definite explosion hazard if ignited. 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES SPILL OR LEAK Recover spilled material for reuse or proper PROCEDURES disposal. Spills may cause very slippery surfaces when wet.
