Section 2
SECTION 2: Hazards identification
Toxic by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed. Danger of cumulative effects. Very toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment.
Potential health effects
Eye: May cause eye irritation. Causes redness and pain. Skin: Causes symptoms similar to those of inhalation. Toxic in contact with skin. May be harmful if absorbed through the skin. Substance is readily absorbed through the skin. Ingestion: May cause irritation of the digestive tract. Poison by ingestion. May cause effects similar to those for inhalation exposure. May cause damage to the red blood cells. Inhalation: May cause respiratory tract irritation. Toxic if inhaled. Central nervous system effects may include confusion, ataxia (failure of muscular coordination), vertigo, tinnitus, weakness, disorientation, lethargy, drowsiness, and finally coma. May produce cardiovascular effects. Chronic: May cause liver and kidney damage. Absorption into the body leads to the formation of methemoglobin which in sufficient concentrations causes cyanosis (bluish discoloration of skin due to deficient oxygenation of the blood). Chronic exposure may cause blood effects.
