2.3 Other hazards
Prolonged inhalation of fine quartz dust may cause silicosis when the maximum admissible concentration at the work place is exceeded. Symptoms of a silicosis may be cough and chronic inflammation of the respiratory system. There is some evidence of increased risk of lung cancer in people who suffer from silicosis.
