SECTION 2: Hazards identification
Also see Emergency Overview and Hazard Ratings on the top of Page 1 of this MSDS. Physical State: Liquid Mayor Route(s) of Entry: Dermal contact. Eye contact. Inhalation. Ingestion. Eye Contact Moderately irritating to eyes. Skin Contact May cause moderate irritation to skin. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness and cracking. Hot product may cause severe eye and skin burns. Inhalation May cause lung damage if swallowed. Vapors may cause drowsiness and dizziness. Ingestion Vapors may cause drowsiness and dizziness. Slightly irritating to respiratory system. Signs and Symptoms of Acute Exposure Eye irritation signs and symptoms may include a burning sensation, redness, swelling, and/or blurred vision. Skin irritation signs and symptoms may include a burning sensation, redness, swelling, and/or blisters. Defatting dermatitis signs and symptoms may include a burning sensation and/or a dried/cracked appearance. Breathing of high vapor concentrations may cause central nervous system (CNS) depression resulting in dizziness, light-headedness, headache, nausea and loss of coordination. Continued inhalation may result in unconsciousness and death. Immunotoxicity may be evidenced by decreased resistance to infection. If material enters lungs, signs and symptoms may include coughing, choking, wheezing, difficulty in breathing, chest congestion, shortness of breath, and/or fever. Peripheral nerve damage may be evidenced by impairment of motor function (incoordination, unsteady walk, or muscle weakness in the extremities, and/or loss of sensation in the arms and legs). Prolonged and repeated exposure to benzene may cause serious injury to blood forming organs and is associated with anemia and is linked to the later development of acute myelogenous leukemia (AML).
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure
Overexposure Repeated exposure to a highly toxic material may produce general deterioration of health by accumulation in one or many human organs. Preexisting eye, skin, heart, central nervous system and respiratory disorders may be aggravated by exposure to this product. Impaired kidney, liver and blood disorders may be aggravated by exposure to this product. Pre-existing medical conditions of the following organ(s) or organ system(s) may be aggravated by exposure to this material: Blood, Blood-forming organs. Central Nervous System (CNS). Eyes, Immune system. Peripheral nervous system. Skin. Overexposure signs/symptoms Nasal and respiratory tract irritation, central nervous system effects including excitation, euphoria, contracted eye pupils, dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, fatigue, nausea, headache, loss of reflexes, tremors, convulsions, seizures, loss of consciousness, coma, respiratory arrest or sudden death could occur as a result of long term and/or high concentration exposure to vapors. May also cause anemia and irregular heart rhythm.
