SECTION 2: Hazards identification
Emergency Overview: Mildly corrosive. Ingestion poses no real toxic effect in small amounts, but repeated (chronic) ingestion can cause serious problems subsequent to lead poisoning. Ingestion may cause nausea. If ingested, dilute with water. Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician. May cause irritation to the skin and eyes. Wash areas of contact with plenty of water. Acute poisoning is rare by any route of exposure. Target Organs: eyes, skin, gastrointestinal tract, blood, gums, kidneys, central nervous system. Eye Contact: May cause irritation, redness, pain, and tearing. Inhalation: Symptoms may include headache, insomnia, persistent vomiting, blurred vision, irritability, anemia, hypertension, anxiety, and the appearance of a dark line along the gums in the mouth. Skin Contact: May cause irritation, dermatitis, redness and pain. May be absorbed through skin on prolonged exposure. Ingestion: Large doses may cause gastrointestinal upset, nausea, vomiting, and/or headache. No real toxic effects in small amounts, however, repeated (chronic) ingestion or extremely large single (acute) doses could cause serious problems subsequent to lead poisoning. Chronic Effects/Carcinogenicity: Lead accumulates in bone and teeth on prolonged or repeated exposure. IARC - No. NTP - Lead Acetate Trihydrate - - Substances or groups of substances, and medical treatments which may reasonably be anticipated to be carcinogens. OSHA - No. Reproductive Information: Reproductive effects cited in 'Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances' for Lead Acetate Trihydrate. Teratology (Birth Defect) Information: Mutation data cited in 'Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances' for Lead Acetate Trihydrate. Mutation data cited in 'Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances' for Chloroplatinic Acid Hexahydrate.
