The inhalation of respirable quartz-containing dust may cause silicosis. The formation of dust affect adversely the respiration and irritate the eyes. Adequate (if necessary constructive) measures must be taken to ensure that the water which forms during drying of the refractory material can escape without pressure from the lining and kiln aggregate.
