Other physicochemical hazards
Flam. Liq. 2 - H225 Human health Acute Tox. 3 - H301;Acute Tox. 3 - H311;Acute Tox. 3 - H331;STOT SE 1 - H370 The product is highly flammable, and explosive vapours/air mixtures may be formed even at normal room temperatures. Violent reaction with oxidising materials. Heating causes decomposition into carbon oxides and formaldehyde. If vapours are produced in enclosed spaces do not use without respiratory protection.
Environmental hazards
Not classified. The product is not expected to be hazardous to the environment. Readily utilised by micro-organisms in the environment. Methanol is readily degradable in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. It is not expected to bioaccumulate. The substance is miscible with water and will spread in water systems. Due to its low absorption rate into soil it has a high potential to travel into groundwater when present in large or continuous discharges. Due to the flammability of the product there is a high potential to cause fire especially if discharged near to ignition sources. This can lead to widespread fire and environmental damage.

F;R11 T;R23/24/25, R39/23/24/25 The Full Text for all R-Phrases and Hazard Statements are Displayed in Section 16. Human health Methanol is toxic with possible irreversible effects through inhalation, skin contact and if swallowed. Can cause irreversible damage to the optic nerve and blindness. Central nervous system depression, coma and death. Vapours are irritating to the respiratory system. Irritating to eyes. Prolonged skin contact may cause redness and irritation. The minimum lethal dose is considerd to be in the range 300 - 1000 mg/kg.
