HazCom classification of the bulk product as “Specific Target Organ Toxicant- RE Category 1” is warranted at >1% respirable crystalline silica (quartz or cristobalite), based on the primary effect in humans of the inhalation of respirable crystalline silica dust , silicosis. Long term exposure can cause lung injury (silicosis). IARC and NTP have determined that crys- talline silica inhaled from occupational sources can cause cancer in humans. Risk of injury is de- pendent on the duration and level of exposure.
