SECTION 2: Hazards identification
Hazard Communication Standard Classification: Solid synthetic rubber.
Hazard statements
No unusual hazards are expected from this product. This product mixture does not contain any ingredients with unknown acute toxicity >1% by weight.
Appearance/Odor
Black, with slight characteristic odor. Emergency Overview No unusual emergency situations are expected from this product.
Principle Routes of Exposure
ingestion, skin
Potential health effects
Acute (short term) Ingestion Published studies have demonstrated that the primary ingredients of this synthetic rubber blend (acrylonitrile-butadiene, polybutadiene & polyvinyl chloride polymers) have low oral toxicity, and ingestion is not a probable route of exposure. Skin: Dermal contact may produce minor mechanical irritation. Heated, softened material undergoing processing can adhere to skin, potentially causing severe thermal burns. Eye: Mechanical irritation only. Inhalation: Processing at temperatures above 390 °F (200 °C) may produce fumes irritating to the eyes, nose, and throat. Such exposure can result in reddening, tearing, and itching of the eyes, soreness in the nose & throat, and coughing. See Section 8 of this SDS for exposure controls and appropriate personal protection.
Long term hazards
No known chronic health effects associated with exposure to powder or dust generated from mechanical alteration of this product. See Section 11 of this SDS for additional toxicological data.
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure
Persons with a history of chronic respiratory disease, skin disease, or central or peripheral nervous system disorders may be at increased risk of worsening their conditions from exposure to this product.
