EMERGENCY OVERVIEW * * * High pressure gas. Can cause rapid suffocation. May cause liver, kidney, spleen, and other organ damage.
Principle Routes of Exposure
Inhalation ACUTE EFFECTS: Vapor inhalation causes varying degrees of central nervous system depression with noticeable anesthetic effects at levels of 1% (10,000 ppm). Inhalation can cause headache, dizziness, lung irritation, narcosis and unconsciousness. Mixture can act as a simple asphyxiant by displacing air necessary for life. Symptoms include rapid respiration, muscular incoordination, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, unconsciousness, and death.
Potential chronic health
Liver tumors (angiosarcomas) are formed from vinyl chloride exposure. Other tumors of the central nervous system, respiratory system, blood and lumphatic system occured from exposure to the polyvinyl chloride manufacture process but vinyl chloride itself may not be the causative agent. Suspected human carcinogen.
