Precautionary statements
Keep container tightly closed. Keep away from heat/sparks/open flames/hot surfaces. - No smoking. Wear protective gloves/clothing and eye/face protection as specified by the manufacturer/supplier or the competent authority. Ground/bond container as specified by the manufacturer/supplier or the competent authority. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Take off contaminated clothing and wash it before reuse. Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapors/spray. Take precautionary measures against static discharge.
Response
In case of fire, use appropriate media specified by the manufacturer/supplier or the competent authority. IF ON SKIN (or hair): Remove/take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Rinse skin with water/shower. Wash with plenty of soap and water. If skin irritation or rash occurs, seek medical advice/attention. IF IN EYES: Rinse vigirously with water for 20 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. If eye irritation persists, get medical advice/attention. Absorb spillage to prevent material damage.
Storage
Store in cool/well-ventilated place. Dispose of contents/container in accordance with local/regional/national/international regulation. Store in original container.
Potential health effects
Acute and Chronic) Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause defatting and dermatitis. Repeated excessive exposure to ethylene glycol may cause irritation of the upper respiratory tract. In humans, effects have been reported on the central nervous system, including nystagmus (involuntary, rapid, rhythmic movement of the eyeball). Chronic: May cause liver and kidney damage. Sophisticated modeling has clearly proven that 2-butoxyethanol does not build up in the body under any kinds of normal use. May cause kidney injury. Inhalation Harmful if inhaled. May cause respiratory tract irritation. May cause narcotic effects in high concentration. If ethylene glycol is heated or misted in work areas that are poorly ventilated, vapor/mist may accumulate and cause respiratory irritation and symptoms such as headache and nausea. Material has a very low vapor pressure at room temperature, so inhalation exposures are not expected unless material is heated or misted. Inhalation of high concentrations may cause central nervous system effects characterized by nausea, headache, dizziness. Inhalation of vapors may cause drowsiness and dizziness. Eye Contact Causes redness and pain. May cause moderate eye irritation. Produces irritation, characterized by a burning sensation, redness, tearing, inflammation, and possible corneal injury. May cause transient corneal injury. In the eyes of a rabbit, 0.1 ml of a rabbit, 0.1 ml of 70% isopropyl alcohol caused conjunctivitis, isopropyl alcohol caused conjun ctivitis, iritis, and corneal opacity. LD 50 / LC 50 Ingredient CAS# 111-76-2, Ethanol, 2-Butoxy-: Humans are less susceptible than rodents to 2-butoxyethanol exposure. 2-Butoxyethanol gives toxic results when tested on rabbits and rats. It does not behave the same when humans are exposed to it. This is explained by the different makeup of the red blood cells of test animals vs. humans. Test animal red blood cells are hypersensitive to 2-butoxyethanol when compared to humans.
