Section 2
SECTION 2: Hazards identification
Emergency Overview: Gray paste/liquid with a solvent and amine odor. Flammable liquid. Keep away from heat, sparks and other sources of ignition. Skin, eye and respiratory irritant. Skin absorption hazard. Harmful if inhaled. Inhalation may cause temporary 1 nervous system effects. Chronic health effects. Refer to other sections of the MSDS for more detail.
Principle Routes of Exposure
Inhalation, skin and eye contact. Acute Effects Eye: Contact may cause severe eye irritation. Skin: Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause defatting or drying of the skin which may lead to irritation and /or dermatitis. May be absorbed through the skin (see Section 2). Inhalation: Inhalation of high concentrations of toluene may cause respiratory irritation and central nervous system effects progressing from headache, dizziness, staggering gait and confusion to unconsciousness, coma, and death. The severity of these effects will be dependent on the vapor concentration and length of exposure. Inhalation of extremely high concentrations of toluene may cause heart irregularities and cardiac sensitization. Ingestion: Harmful if swallowed.
Potential chronic health
Toxicology studies with laboratory animals and occupational evaluations with humans have found limited evidence of birth defects, low birth weight and delayed growth in offspring resulting from repeated exposures to toluene during pregnancy. Subchronic and chronic inhalations studies with toluene produced kidney and liver damage and hearing loss. Prolonged or repeated contact with silver may result in argyria, a blue-gray discoloration of the eyes, skin or other body tissue. Once deposited, there is no known means by which the silver can be eliminated; the pigmentation is permanent. Special Condition Effects: The silicone compounds in this product release secondary-butylamine upon moisture curing. Exposure to butylamine may cause irritation of the eyes, mucous membranes and skin. Direct contact with the eyes and skin will cause burns and may cause permanent injury. Effects of overexposure include eye, nose and throat irritation; headache and flushing of the skin. The silicone compounds in this product release cyclohexylamine upon moisture curing. Exposure to cyclohexylamine vapors may cause irritation of the eyes, mucous membranes and skin. Direct contact with the eyes and skin will cause burns and may cause permanent injury. A reversible narcotic effect was noted in three cases of acute human exposure.
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure
Preexisting respiratory conditions may be aggravated. 2
