Section 2

Principle Routes of Exposure

Inhalation, skin and eye contact.

Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure

No data is available for this product mixture Acute Effects Eye: Direct eye contact may cause irritation with mild redness and dryness. Skin: Prolonged and repeated contact may cause irritation. Repeated contact with metallic nickel can cause nickel sensitivity and allergic skin reactions. Inhalation: No respiratory irritation is anticipated due to the low volatility of this product at room temperature. However, heating can generate vapors that may cause respiratory irritation. Oral: Harmful if swallowed.

Potential chronic health

Chronic: Exposure to filler materials is unlikely to occur unless the product is handled under aggressive use conditions, in which case the toxicity information below would apply. Prolonged exposure to crystalline free silica may cause scarring of the lungs with symptoms including coughing and shortness of breath. A delayed lung disease, silicosis, may result from prolonged breathing of free crystalline silica. Silicosis is a form of disabling pulmonary fibrosis which can lead to pulmonary or heart failure. Crystalline silica is classified as an IARC and NTP carcinogen. The National Toxicology Program (NTP) has listed nickel as reasonably anticipated to be a carcinogen. The International Agency of Research on Cancer (IARC) has concluded that there is sufficient evidence that nickel and nickel compounds, as a group, are carcinogenic in humans. Epidemiological studies of workers exposed to nickel powder and to dusts and fumes generated in the production of nickel alloys and of stainless steel have not indicated the presence of a significant respiratory cancer hazard. Inhalation of natural and synthetic graphite has resulted in cases of pneumoconiosis. Note: When heated to temperatures above 150°C, in the presence of air, this product may form traces of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a potential cancer hazard. Safe handling conditions may be

Storage

Store in a cool dry location with adequate ventilation. Keep container tightly closed when not in use. Prevent contact/storage with incompatible materials. Keep away from open flame and heat sources. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION The recommendations described in this section are provided as general guidance for minimizing exposure. Because usage conditions vary with customer applications, specific exposure controls should be developed by a person knowledgeable in the intended usage condition and equipment. Ventilation: Provide local exhaust ventilation to capture vapors or mist generated by the process. Ventilation must be sufficient to maintain airborne levels of Section 2 ingredients their exposure limits. Eyes: Use safety eyewear including safety glasses with side shields and chemical goggles where splashing may occur. Skin: Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin contact. Wash thoroughly after handling and before eating, drinking or smoking. Contaminated clothing or shoes should be removed as soon as possible and thoroughly cleaned before reuse. Inhalation: Use NIOSH/MSHA approved respiratory protection if adequate exhaust ventilation is not provided or air sampling indicates exposure limits are exceeded. The type of respirator selected will depend on the condition of use. Respiratory protection programs must comply with 29 CFR 1910.134.
