SECTION 2: Hazards identification
Emergency Overview: Clear/yellow liquid with a solvent odor. Flammable liquid. Keep away from heat, sparks and other sources of ignition. May cause severe irritation of eyes and defatting of skin. Skin and respiratory sensitizer. Inhalation may cause irritation and central nervous system effects. Chronic health hazards. Refer to other sections of the MSDS for more detailed information. Routes of Entry: Inhalation, skin and eye contact. Acute Effects: Eye: Contact may cause severe eye irritation. Skin: Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause defatting or drying of the skin which may lead to irritation and /or dermatitis (rash).
Contains
HDI which may upon contact cause sensitization, an allergic skin reaction, with symptoms including reddening, swelling, rash, scaling or blistering. Persons who become sensitized may exhibit these symptoms on subsequent contact with very small amounts of material or as a result of exposure to vapor Inhalation: Inhalation of high concentrations of solvent may cause respiratory irritation and central nervous system effects progressing from headache, dizziness, staggering gait and confusion to unconsciousness, coma, and death. The severity of these effects will be dependent on the vapor concentration and length of exposure. Contains isocyanate which may cause sensitization, allergic respiratory reactions, with symptoms including chest tightness, wheezing, cough, shortness of breath or other signs of a non-specific asthmatic response. These symptoms may develop immediately or be delayed up to several hours after exposure. Respiratory sensitization may develop as a result of a previous repeated overexposure or a single large dose. Once sensitized, certain individuals may exhibit signs of an asthmatic response even when exposures are well below TLV or PEL values. Acute inhalation overexposure to isocyanates has also been reported to cause hypersensitivity pneumonitis, which is characterized by flu-like symptoms and irritation of the mucous membranes. Ingestion: Harmful if swallowed.
Potential chronic health
Chronic overexposure to isocyanates has been reported to cause lung injury which may be permanent. Sensitization can either be temporary or permanent. This product contains ethyl benzene. Prolonged or repeated overexposure to ethyl benzene by inhalation may damage the liver, kidneys and bone marrow. Special Condition Effects: Not applicable.
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure
Preexisting respiratory conditions may be aggravated.
