Health hazards
Emergency Overview : Silver paste. Mild odor. Caution! May cause eye and skin irritation. May cause respiratory irritation. May cause gastrointestinal irritation. Possible cancer hazard.
Potential health effects
Signs and symptoms of short-term (acute) exposure Inhalation : Inhalation of vapours in high concentration may cause irritation of respiratory system. Inhalation of fumes may result in metal fume fever, a flu-like illness. Symptoms of metal fume fever may include fever, fatigue, vomiting, muscle aches and shortness of breath. Avoid heating, which will result in the liberation of formaldehyde gas. Formaldehyde causes severe respiratory irritation, lung inflammation and pulmonary edema. Symptoms of pulmonary edema (chest pain, shortness of breath) may be delayed. Skin May cause skin irritation. Symptoms may include redness, itching and swelling. Eyes May cause eye irritation. Avoid heating, which will result in the liberation of formaldehyde gas. Formaldehyde gas causes moderate to severe eye irritation Ingestion : Ingestion may cause irritation to mucous membranes. May cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Effects of long-term (chronic) exposure : Silver in the form of a finely divided dust may cause discoloration in contact with skin, and argyrosis in case of inhalation. Carcinogenic status : Possible cancer hazard. See TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION, Section 11. Additional health hazards : See TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION, Section 11.
