Section 2
SECTION 2: Hazards identification
Porcelain tile are blend of clays, silica sands and other minerals mixed with water and fired at high temperatures. The tiles are stable, non-flammable, with no distinguishable odor and pose no hazard to health. Eye and respiratory protection may be needed to prevent excess exposure to dust if dry cutting the tile (not recommended) or tile removal (breackage). Hands and feet protection are recommended as well.
Principle Routes of Exposure
None for intact tiles Symptoms Inhalation: mild irritation of nose and throat (caused by the dust produced while cutting/breacking the tile) Eye: mild irritation of eyes (caused by the dust produced while cutting/breacking the tile) Acute effects: No acute effects known for intact tiles exposure
Potential chronic health
No chronic effects known for intact tiles exposure Carcinogen status: Respirable Crystalline silica is classified as carcinogenic to humans: use of respiratory protection is suggested if cutting, removing or breaking tiles
