SECTION 2: Hazards identification
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW: WARNING! Causes eye burns. Causes skin burns. May cause allergic skin reaction. Vapor harmful. Harmful if swallowed. May be harmful if absorbed through skin.
Principle Routes of Exposure
Inhalation • Skin absorption • Ingestion • Skin contact • Eye contact Target Organs Potentially • Kidneys Affected by Exposure: • Liver • Respiratory Tract • Skin
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure
Respiratory disorders, including but not limited to asthma and bronchitis. • Kidney disease • Liver disease • Skin disorders. • Immediate (Acute) Health Effects by Route of Exposure: Inhalation Irritation: Causes nose and throat irritation. Causes lung irritation. Can be corrosive to the respiratory tract causing severe irritation and tissue damage. Inhalation Toxicity: Vapor harmful. May affect the brain or nervous system causing dizziness, headache or nausea. May cause allergic respiratory reaction. Sensitizer! Avoid exposure. If sensitized, exposure below the published exposure limits (e.g. TLV or PEL) can result in respiratory irritation, shortness of breath and difficulty breathing. These asthma-type symptoms may develop immediately or be delayed up to several hours. Skin Contact: Corrosive to skin tissue. Can cause chemical burns. Skin Absorption: Highly toxic if absorbed through the skin. Likely to cause significant systemic damage even if small quantities are absorbed through skin. May be fatal if a large quantity is absorbed. May be harmful if absorbed through skin. Contains a substance which may result in absorption of harmful amounts upon prolonged or widespread contact. Eye Contact: Corrosive to eye tissue. Can cause severe irritation, tearing, and burns that can quickly lead to permanent injury including blindness. Ingestion Toxicity: Highly toxic if swallowed. May cause target organ failure and/or death even at a low dose. This product may produce corrosive damage to the gastrointestinal tract if it is swallowed. Corrosive to tissue. Can cause severe and permanent damage to mouth, throat, stomach. Aspiration may lead to lung damage. Long-Term (Chronic) Health Effects: Inhalation: Upon prolonged and/or repeated exposure, can be corrosive to the respiratory tract causing severe irritation and tissue damage. Upon prolonged and/or repeated exposure, can cause severe respiratory irritation, dizziness, weakness, fatigue, nausea, headache and possible unconsciousness. Overexposure may cause lung damage. Overexposure may cause respiratory tract damage. Skin Contact: Upon prolonged or repeated contact, corrosive to skin tissue. Can cause chemical burns. Skin Absorption: Upon prolonged or repeated exposure, toxic if absorbed through the skin. Likely to cause systemic damage.
