SECTION 2: Hazards identification
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW** WARNING Flammable. Irritating to eyes and skin. Harmful by inhalation. Vapours may cause drowsiness and dizziness. Harmful: may cause lung damage if swallowed. Keep away from heat. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Keep container tightly closed. Do not get in eyes, on skin, on clothing. Avoid breathing vapor. Use with adequate ventilation. Do not take internally. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of soap and water. Wear chemical splash goggles. Wear suitable protective clothing and gloves. Flammable Liquid; may release vapors that form flammable mixtures at or above the flash point. Vapors can travel to a source of ignition and flash back. Empty product containers may contain product residue. Do not pressurize, cut, heat, weld, or expose containers to flame or other sources of ignition. May evolve oxides of carbon (COx) under fire conditions.
Principle Routes of Exposure
Eye, Skin, Inhalation
Health hazards
ACUTE EYE CONTACT : Can cause moderate to severe irritation. SKIN CONTACT : Can cause moderate irritation. INGESTION : Not a likely route of exposure. May cause nausea and vomiting. Can cause chemical pneumonia if aspirated into lungs following ingestion. Can cause central nervous system depression. INHALATION : Ingestion of acetylsalicylic acid and inhalation exposure of N-hexane synergistically enhances the hearing loss caused by inhalation exposure to toluene in laboratory animals. Harmful: danger of serious damage to health by prolonged exposure through inhalation. Repeated or prolonged exposure may irritate the respiratory tract. Product mist or vapors may cause headache, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, stupor or unconsciousness. Can cause central nervous system depression. SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE : Acute : Inhalation of high concentrations of organic solvents can cause nausea, dizziness, vomiting, stupor or unconsciousness. Chronic : Frequent or prolonged contact with product may defat and dry the skin, leading to discomfort and dermatitis. AGGRAVATION OF EXISTING CONDITIONS : Skin contact may aggravate an existing dermatitis condition. EMERGENCY TELEPHONE NUMBER(S) (800)463-3216 (24 Hours) CHRONIC Concentrated, prolonged or deliberate inhalation of toluene may cause brain and nervous system damage. Prolonged and repeated exposure of pregnant animals to toluene (levels greater than approximately 1500 ppm) has been reported to cause adverse fetal developmental effects. Chronic ingestion of an ingredient in the product has been shown to cause cardiac effects (myocardial fiber degeneration) and mid-frequency hearing loss in laboratory animals. Chronic inhalation of an ingredient in the product has been shown to cause non-neoplastic lesions in the nasal cavity, as well as high frequency hearing losss in laboratory animals. An ingredient in this product has been shown to cause fetotoxic effects in laboratory animals. An ingredient in this product has been shown to cause teratogenic effects in laboratory animals.
