Section 2

SECTION 2: Hazards identification

Dust, emerged by handling with GRP semi-finished products cannot infiltrate into the alveolus because of the length of 5ìm and a length-diameter measure over 3. The glassfibers and the dust have an irritating character (irritation of skin, eyes and respiratory system). This irritation has mechanical reasons and normally will stop when you are out of reach of the glassfibers and dust. First aid arrangements: Breathing difficulties: exit location Skin irritation: clean with clear lukewarm water, do not rub Eye contact: douche with water at least 10 min. Allergic reaction: exit location Fire-fighting measurements: Extinguishing media: water, CO2 dry powder, foam Special protective equipment: - Local-independent compressed air breathing apparatus or independent air circulation breathing apparatus - Firefighters protective clothes If there is no protective clothing available, the fire fighting has to be taken place in a secure distance or protected place. Additional details: - block the danger area - keep uninvolved persons away - avoid fire spread Measurements in case of unintended release Personal protection measurements: See paragraph “exposure controls and personal protection equipment” Ecological measurements: Completely cured GRP-products do not give reason for emission of hazardous substances in significant dimensions. Waste can be treated like inert industry waste mentioned in local or country regulations. Cleaning method: Absorption/ sweeping and depollute in industrial waste containers Handling and storage Handling: Technical measurements/ precautionary measurements/ safety at work

Storage

Technical measurements: none Storage condition: safeguard against leaches Incompatible components: none Packaging material: pallets, foil, cardboards Exposure controls and personal protection equipment Based on the irritating characteristics of the glassfibers and dust the following suggestions are given: - usage of a protective crème - wearing of gloves - wearing of work clothes with long sleeves and long trouser legs - protecting mask - protecting glasses Personal protective equipment: - in single cases breathing protection - wearing of an EU approved breathing mask of class FP1 or FP2 Check value workplace related safety value for inert dust: 5mg/m³ Technical measurements: - adequate space ventilation - absorption of dust at the workplace - keep dust concentration under the safety value - eye protection - gloves - working clothes with long sleeves and trouser legs - protection gloves Physical and chemical characteristics Aggregate state solid Form semi-finished product Colour RAL-coulours, natural Smell odourless pH value not applicable temperature depends on storage explosion limits not applicable mess density 1,6-2,1 g/cm³ solubility not applicable In single cases, especially occurring by new goods, a lightly sweet smell can be noticed. This does not mean a release of toxic elements. Stability and reactivity Stability: GRP semi-finished products and gratings are solid under predictable application, storage and using conditions Hazardous reactions: The products are inert and do not release dangerous reactions. Hazardous decomposition products: During external burning steam and CO2 accumulate as well as small amounts of carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides. Details of toxicity Acutely toxicity not applicable Local effects temporarily irritations caused by dust Sensitization rarely allergies Carcinogenic none Details of ecological toxicity Glassfiber reinforced plastics are not bio-degradable. Disposal instructions GRP cull can be depollute as inert or normal industrial waste regarding the local regulations. According to these regulations the cull can be binned at appropriate waste disposal sites. The burning of GRP cull can be problematic because of the glass components. Cardboards, wood and plastic packaging have to be depollute at the local disposal system. Details for transport International regulations: GRP semi-finished products and gratings are no hazardous goods and are no subject to official guidelines. Applicable regulations GRP semi-finished products and gratings are no hazardous goods and are no subject to official guidelines. They are not subject to specific labeling according to dangerous goods regulations. General basic principles of hygiene and safety should be followed.
