WARNING!
Section 2
SECTION 2: Hazards identification
Appearance: Pasty, coloured liquid. Emergency Overview WARNING!
Health hazards
HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED, INHALED OR ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN. MAY CAUSE SEVERE EYE IRRITATION AND POSSIBLE INJURY. CAUSES IRRITATION TO SKIN AND RESPIRATORY TRACT. VAPOURS MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS AND DIZZINESS. AFFECTS CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM, LIVER, BLOOD AND KIDNEYS. COMBUSTIBLE LIQUID AND VAPOUR. VAPOURS ARE HEAVIER THAN AIR. Safety Hazards: VAPOURS MAY TRAVEL ACROSS THE GROUND AND REACH REMOTE IGNITION SOURCES CAUSING A FLASHBACK FIRE DANGER. HARMFUL TO AQUATIC ORGANISMS. MAY CAUSE LONG-TERM ADVERSE
Environmental hazards
EFFECTS IN THE AQUATIC ENVIRONMENT.
Principle Routes of Exposure
Inhalation, Skin Contact, Eye Contact, Ingestion
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure
Skin Allergies, Eczema, Asthma, Respiratory disorders Impaired liver, kidney, Central nervous system (CNS) or pulmonary function. Inhalation: Irritating to respiratory system. Respiratory irritation signs and symptoms may include a temporary burning sensation of the nose and throat, coughing, and/or difficulty breathing. ache, dizziness, fatigue, nausea and vomiting. Breathing of high vapour concentrations may cause central nervous system (CNS) depression resulting in dizziness, light-headedness, fatuige, headache, nausea, loss of coordination and vomiting. Aspiration into the lungs may result in chemical pneumonitis. Continued inhalation may result in unconsciousness and death. Skin Contact: Causes skin irritation. High skin absorption potential. Defatting effects on the skin. Eye Contact: Vapour is irritating to eyes. Splashes cause severe irritation, possible corneal burns and eye damage. Ingestion: Burning sensation in the throat and chest. Causes irritation to the gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea. Ingestion of low amounts may cause drowsiness and dizziness. Ingestion of higher amounts have a narcotic effect and may cause effects on the central nervous system, resulting in respiratory failure, nausea and unconsciousness. If material enters lungs, signs and symptoms may include coughing, choking, wheezing, difficulty in breathing, chest congestion, shortness of breath, and/or fever. Chronic Exposure Auditory system prolonged and repeated exposures to high concentrations have resulted in hearing loss in rats. Solvent abuse and noise interaction in the work environment may cause hearing loss. The substance may cause effects on the central nervous system, lung and liver, and on the blood, resulting in anaemia, liver and kidney impairment. Cardiovascular system: chronic abuse of similar materials has been associated with irregular heart rhythms and cardiac arrest. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. Defatting dermatitis signs and symptoms may include a burning sensation and/or a dried/cracked appearance. Further possibilities of organ or organ system damage from prolonged exposure; see Chapter 11 for more details.
Environmental effects
Harmful to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment.
