Section 2
SECTION 2: Hazards identification
OSHA Emergency Overview: Solid particles may cause transient irritation from mechanical abrasion. Dusts and heat-released air emissions may be irritating to the eyes, skin and respiratory system. Molten material may cause thermal burns. At process temperatures irritating fumes may be produced. Dust may form an explosive atmosphere when dispersed in air. Spilled product may create a dangerous slipping hazard. Keep released pellets away from storm sewers and from entry into other aquatic systems. This material is NOT HAZARDOUS under the criteria of the Federal

Hazard statements
While this product may not be a combustible dust as sold, further processing or handling may form combustible dust concentration in air. Ratings Key: 0 = least, 1 = slight, 2 = moderate, 3 = high, 4 = extreme Health Fire Reactivity PPI NFPA 1 0 HMIS 1 0 X 1
Principle Routes of Exposure
Skin contact. Eye contact. Inhalation. Ingestion.
Potential Acute Health Effects
Inhalation: Negligible at room temperature. Exposure to dust at airborne concentrations well above the recommended exposure limits may cause irritation of the nose, throat and lungs. The talc, if present, is inextricably bound or coated in the polyethylene; this would preclude an inhalation hazard. Ingestion: Ingestion is not a likely route of exposure. No effects are expected for ingestion of small amounts. May produce mild gastrointestinal irritation and disturbances. May be a choking hazard. Skin: No known acute effects of this product resulting from skin contact at room temperature. For heated polymer, skin contact can cause serious thermal burns, which may include pain or feeling of heat, discolorations, swelling and blistering. Eyes: Dust may cause mechanical irritation to eye, and is not expected to cause prolonged or significant eye irritation. Eye contact with heated polymer can cause serious thermal burns or blindness. Vapors formed when polymer is heated may be irritating to the eye.
Potential chronic health
Effects CARCINOGENIC EFFECTS: Polyethylene is not a known carcinogen. Not listed as a carcinogen by NTP
Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure
Overexposure There is no known effect from chronic exposure to this product. Repeated or prolonged exposure is not known to aggravate any medical conditions. Overexposure Signs/Symptoms: No adverse health effects are anticipated from the solid pellet. See Toxicological Information (Section 11)
