Potential health effects
Eyes Irritation. Risk of serious damage to eyes. Skin Skin burns. Sensitization. Rash. _______________________________________________ Page 1 / 4 Initial symptoms of metal fume fever can include sweating, shivering, headache, fever, chills, thirstiness, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, weakness, and tiredness . Short term (acute) overexposure to welding fumes may result in the following effects. Dizziness. Nausea. Irritation of the nose or throat. Respiratory irritation. Chronic exposure to inert dusts of silicon can cause increased airway resistance and contributes to chronic bronchitis . Prolonged over exposure to molybdenum may cause loss of appetite, weight loss, loss of muscle coordination, difficulty breathing and anemia. Long term overexposure to Tungsten may cause pulmonary fibrosis characterized by rapid onset of cough, sputum and dyspnea on exertion. Iron deposits in the lungs may cause siderosis. It is believed by some investigators to affect pulmonary function . Chronic exposure to high levels of manganese dust and fumes can cause nervous system disorders, pneumonitis (inflammation of lung tissue), and may cause fibrosis (scarring of lung tissue) and reproductive disorders in males .
