SECTION 2: Hazards identification
Directive 1999/45/EC: This product is classified according to EU Directive 1999/45/EC.
2.1 Classification of the substance or mixture
Carc. Cat. 2;R45, Muta. Cat. 3;R68, Repr. Cat. 3;R62-63, T+;R26, T;R48/23/25, N;R50-53
Physical hazards
Not classified as a physical hazard.
Health hazards
May cause cancer. Also very toxic by inhalation. Also toxic: danger of serious damage to health by prolonged exposure through inhalation and if swallowed. Possible risk of impaired fertility. Possible risk of harm to the unborn child. Possible risk of irreversible effects. Prolonged exposure may cause chronic effects.
Environmental hazards
Very toxic to aquatic organisms. May cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment. Specific hazards Elevated temperatures or mechanical action may form dust and fumes which may be irritating to the eye, mucous membranes and respiratory tract. Heating above the melting point releases metallic oxides which may cause metal fume fever by inhalation. The symptoms are shivering, fever, malaise and muscular pain. Under normal conditions of use the level of metallic oxide fumes released are unlikely to exceed the specified workplace exposure limits (WELs). However, bad brazing practice / overheating could result in the emission of fumes in harmful concentrations above the specified workplace exposure limits (WELs). Exposure to high levels of camium oxide fumes cause pulmonary edema. Repeated or prolonged exposure to cadmium oxide fumes may cause loss of sense of smell, ulceration of the nose, shortness of breath (emphysema), kidney damage, and mild anemia. Ingestion of silver may cause a permanently benign bluish grey discoloration to the skin (argyria). The effects might be delayed. Hot or molten material may produce thermal burns. Main symptoms Irritation of nose and throat. Irritation of eyes and mucous membranes.
