Long term exposure to ethanol vapour may lead to symptoms of alcoholism. Methylated spirit is a central nervous system depressant. Inhalation Vapour is irritant to mucous membranes and respiratory tract. Ingestion May irritate throat and gastrointestinal tract. May cause gastric upset. Skin Will have a strong degreasing effect on the skin. May cause irritation. Prolonged skin contact may lead to irritant contact dermatitis. Eye Moderate irritant. If contact is prolonged, may cause tissue injury. Vapour can also irritate the eyes.
