Section 2
SECTION 2: Hazards identification
OSHA Emergency Overview Corrosive. Opaque, dark yellow to brown alkaline liquid with a faint pungent sulfur odor. Product is corrosive to eyes, skin, internal respiratory and GI tissues, and some metals. May react exothermically (get hot) with acid. Exposure to sulfur dioxide in head space gas may result in respiratory distress for sulfite sensitive individuals or asthmatics. Contact between product and acid will generate sulfur dioxide gas.

2.3 Other hazards
Contact with some metals may generate explosive hydrogen gas. Product contains sulfite. Contact with acids liberates toxic gases. Contact with acid may generate sufficient sulfur dioxide gas in a confined space to create an asphyxiation hazard. Ingestion of product may result in anaphylactic shock for sulfite sensitive individuals.

point of a spill may elevate pH levels above tolerable levels for aquatic organisms. Significant contamination of surface water may also temporarily depress oxygen levels below minimum requirements for aquatic organisms. Product contains phosphate that will fertilize algal growth in aquatic ecosystems.
