SECTION 2: Hazards identification
(29 CFR 1910.1200) Form Liquid
Potential Acute Health Effects
Inhalation Can cause central nervous system (CNS) depression. Irritating to respiratory system. May cause sensitization by inhalation. Exposure to decomposition products may cause a health hazard. Serious effects may be delayed following exposure. Harmful by inhalation. Repeated exposure or a single large exposure may cause isocyanate sensitization (chemical asthma). Once sensitized, individuals may react to a later exposure at levels well below the applicable exposure limits. These symptoms could be immediate or delayed up to several hours after exposure. There are reports that once sensitized, symptoms may occur upon exposure to dust, cold air or other irritants. Sensitization can either be temporary or permanent. Ingestion Can cause central nervous system (CNS) depression. Skin Irritating to skin. May cause sensitization by skin contact. Skin contact may trigger respiratory sensitization and symptoms of allergic response including airway restriction, inflammation of airway tissues, and breathing difficulty. Isocyanates react with skin protein and moisture and can cause irritation and skin staining. Cured material is difficult to remove. Eyes Irritating to eyes. Potential chronic health effects
Potential chronic health
Contains material that can cause target organ damage. Chronic overexposure to isocyanates has also been reported to cause lung damage (including fibrosis, decrease in lung function) which may be permanent. Preexisting asthma and other respiratory disorders (bronchitis, emphysema, hyperreactivity) may be aggravated by exposure. Carcinogenicity Contains material which may cause cancer. Risk of cancer depends on duration and level of exposure. Mutagenicity No known significant effects or critical hazards.
Teratogenic Effects
No known significant effects or critical hazards. Developmental effects No known significant effects or critical hazards. Fertility effects No known significant effects or critical hazards. Target organs Contains material which causes damage to the following organs: kidneys, lungs, liver, central nervous system (CNS), Review Section 2 and 11 for any additional assessments. Over-exposure signs/symptoms Inhalation Adverse symptoms may include the following: nausea or vomiting, respiratory tract irritation, coughing, headache, drowsiness/fatigue, dizziness/vertigo, wheezing and breathing difficulties, unconsciousness, asthma, chest tightness or wheezing, breathing difficulty or shortness of breath asthmatic attack, Ingestion Adverse symptoms may include the following: nausea or vomiting, dizziness/vertigo, drowsiness/fatigue, headache, unconsciousness, Skin Adverse symptoms may include the following: irritation, redness, Eyes Adverse symptoms may include the following: pain or irritation, watering, redness, Medical conditions aggravated by over-exposure Pre-existing respiratory and skin disorders and disorders involving any other target organs mentioned in this MSDS as being at risk may be aggravated by over-exposure to this product. See section 11 for more detailed information on health effects and symptoms.
