Section 2

2.1 Classification of the substance or mixture

Iron abrasive itself is chemically inert and does not present any risk to people or to the environment. Risks are dependent upon the user’s process and application. Potential health risks are linked to the exposure to dust, produced by the fragmentation of the abrasives and particles removed from the blasted parts or during surface treatment. The unused product does not contain any components in concentrations which require a classification as a hazardous substance. Not classified as dangerous for supply/use

EC Classification

Not classified as dangerous for supply/use Summary Dust may cause irritation. Caution - spillages may be slippery. When used for abrasive blasting, this material can rebound or fragment into sharp particles which are hazardous to the eyes and skin. Noise is a major hazard in abrasive blasting processes. Abrasive blasting can generate heat, sparks, and static electrical charge. 2.3 Combustible Dust Hazard: Warning: May form combustible dust concentrations in air (during processing and application).

Additional information

During mechanical application (e.g. in blasting machines), dust and vapor may occur. Where dust is present, combustible dust safety precautions are to be observed. The statuary values for dust and vapor in your country have to be observed.
