WARNING!
Section 2
SECTION 2: Hazards identification
(29 CFR 1910.1200) Emergency Overview Physical State: Powder Color: Black Odor: Phenol WARNING! May cause allergic respiratory reaction. Causes skin, eye and respiratory tract itritation.
Potential health effects
Inhalation: May cause allergic respiratory reaction. Causes respiratory tract itritation. Dust and fumes generated from the material can enter the body by inhalation. Frequent inhalation of fume/dust over a long period of time increases the risk of developing lung diseases. Eye Contact: Dust in the eyes will cause itritation. Exposed individuals may experience eye tearing, redness, and discomfort. Skin Contact: Causes skin itritation. May cause allergic skin reaction. Ingestion: Ingestion of dusts generated during working operations may cause nausea and vomiting.
Potential chronic health
Suspected to cause hypersensitivity and allergy. Possible cancer hazard- may cause cancer based on animal data. Prolonged and repeated overexposure to dust can lead to pneumoconiosis. Carbon black: Certain carbon blacks have proved carcinogenic in animal studies. Inhalation animal studies of high concentrations resulted in chronic inflammation, lung fibrosis and lung tumors. Epidemiology studies of workers include [mdings of bronchitis, pneumonia, emphysema and NORTH AMERICAN MSDS 11 9 excess cancer. Formaldehyde: Formaldehyde has carcinogenic potential and is a known skin and respiratory sensitizer. Exposure to formaldehyde may cause respiratory sensitization in some individuals or aggravate pre-existing asthmatic conditions. Pre-existing pulmonary disorders, such as emphysema, may possibly be aggravated by prolonged exposure to high concentrations of graphite dusts and carbon black. Target Organ(s): I Respiratory system I Eye I Lung I Skin I Potential Physical! Chemical Effects: Bulk material is non-cornbustible. The material may form dust and can accumulate electrostatic charges, which may cause an electrical spark (ignition source). High dust levels may create potential for explosion.
