In sulfite-sensitive individuals, skin reactions have been reported following dermal exposures, and respiratory reactions have been reported on ingestion of food, or on ingestion or inhalation of medications which contain related sulfiting agents (bisulfites or metabisulfites) as preservatives. Individuals with asthma may be more prone to these types of reactions.
