SECTION 2: Hazards identification
OSHA Emergency Overview Viscous liquid with no odor. Spills are very slippery. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Contact with eyes may produce irritation and/or redness. Inhalation of mist may cause respiratory irritation. Wear impervious gloves when handling. Do not take internally.
Potential health effects
Eyes Prolonged or repeated eye contact may cause irritation and/or redness. Skin Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause irritation. Inhalation May cause respiratory irritation. Ingestion Not available Chronic hazards Not listed as a carcinogen by IARC, NTP, OSHA or ACGIH. Primary route of entry – Eyes; Inhalation 3. First Aid Measures Inhalation Remove patient to fresh air. If symptoms persist, consult a physician. Skin Flush immediately with soap and water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and launder before reuse. Eye contact Flush with water at least 15 minutes with eyelids open. Call a physician. Ingestion If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Give victim a glass of water. Consult a physician. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. 4. Fire-Fighting Measures Flashpoint >200ºF Auto flammability None Explosion hazard None Explosive limits Lower; Not determined, Upper; Not determined Extinguishing media Carbon dioxide, dry chemical or foam to extinguish. Extinguishing media which must not be used Care must be taken when using water, as spilled product is extremely slippery when wet. Special exposure hazards in fire In a fire situation, may liberate oxides of nitrogen or carbon, and hydrogen chloride. Keep containers cool by spraying with water if exposed to fire. Special protective equipment for fire Self-contained breathing apparatus should be worn. 5. Accidental Release Measures Environmental precautions Avoid runoff into storm sewers and ditches which lead to waterways. Remove all ignition sources. Dike area to control runoff and collect spill in appropriate containers. Methods for cleanup Spills of this product are slippery. Absorb on vermiculite, sand or other inert material. Then water wash to waste treatment area. Water generally increases slip hazard of this material. Other instructions Dispose of solidified material in accordance with federal, state, local or other applicable laws and regulations. 6. Handling and Storage Handling Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Wear impervious gloves.
Storage
Avoid extremes of temperature; wet, damp or humid conditions. 7. Exposure Controls and Personal Protection Engineering controls General ventilation is recommended. Eye wash and safety shower stations are recommended. Exposure guidelines No MAC values have been established. Respiratory protection Respiratory protection is not normally needed since volatility and toxicity are low. If significant vapors, mists, or aerosols are present, use NIOSH approved respirator (ANSI Z 882.1980) or equivalent. Hand protection Wear impervious gloves. Eye protection Wear chemical splash goggles. Skin protection If clothing is contaminated, wash skin and launder clothing. NOTE: Before eating, drinking or smoking, wash face and hands thoroughly with soap and water. 8. Physical and Chemical Properties Physical state, color and odor Clear liquid. No odor. Ph as is N/A Melting point/range N/A Specific gravity 1.08-1.20 Freeze point 35ºF Water solubility Completely soluble; VOC content:~50% volatile 9. Stability and Reactivity Chemical stability Stable; Conditions to avoid: None Materials to avoid Strong oxidants such as liquid chlorine enriched gaseous or liquid oxygen and sodium or calcium hypochlorite. Hazardous decomposition products Oxides of carbon and nitrogen ammonia and/or hydrogen chloride. Vapor may be irritating or harmful. 10. Toxicological information Acute toxicity Not listed as a carcinogen by IARC, NTP, OSHA or ACGIH. The OSHA 8@-hour TWA for total dust is 15 mg/Mᶟ (5mg/Mᶟ for respirable fraction). The ACGIH TLV-TWA is 10mg/Mᶟ. Irritancy May be irritating to skin and eyes on prolonged exposure. Sensitization None Subacute. Subchronic and prolonged toxicity No information available Empirical data on effects on humans Considered nontoxic in normal use. 11. Ecological Information Aquatic toxicity This product or a similar product is toxic to sigh. LC50 (Rainbow Trout) is between 5 to 10 ppm.
