Mineral fibres (without exception) of a diameter larger than 5 µm, can cause reversible mechanical irritations to the eyes and the skin as a result of the fibre diameter. In high concentrations of dust the upper respiratory system can be affected by mechanical irritations. If an excessive amount of fibrous dust is generated during any mechanical treatment of the material, it can be reduced by dust exhaust systems or by natural ventilation.
