Emergency Overview Warning
Hazard statements
Long term exposure to airborne concentrations may cause lung damage. No hazards are known when this fiber product is handled/processed properly and used for its intended application. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as needed. The hazards of this product are associated mainly with its processing. Processing para- aramid products can release respirable dust and respirable fiber particulate. Dust may form explosive mixture in air. Prolonged inhalation of respirable dust and respirable fiber particulate at high concentrations can cause lung damage. High concentrations of dust can irritate eyes, nose and respiratory system and cause coughing and sneezing. Continual rubbing of fiber particulates and dust on the skin can cause transitory mild irritation with redness or itching. Normal precautions common to safe manufacturing practice should be followed in handling and storage. Appearance: Red Color Pigmented fibers Physical state: fiber Odor: Mild
Response
IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. May cause eye irritation. May cause mild skin irritation. Inhalation non-hazardous under normal use conditions. Excessive concentrations may cause irritation of nose, throat, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, loss of coordination and can cause aggravated asthma-like conditions. Irritation gases/fumes may be given off during burning or thermal decomposition.
Storage
Normal precautions common to safe manufacturing practice should be followed in handling and storage.
2.1 Classification of the substance or mixture
OSHA Regulatory Status This chemical is not considered hazardous according to the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.122). This product is considered an article under normal conditions of use and a Safety Data Sheet is not required per OSHA Hazard Communication Standard. Acute toxicity - Inhalation (Dusts/Mists) The fiber product and polymer coating is non-toxic. Vigorous abrasions of para-aramid products can yield microscopic fibrous dust particles. Dust may be irritating to the respiratory tract and cause symptoms of bronchitis. This product has a low order of acute toxicity and ingestion is not expected to cause any harm. Skin corrosion/irritation May cause mild skin irritation. Prolonged contact may cause irritation. Serious eye damage/eye irritation May be slightly irritating to the eyes. Respiratory sensitization Inhalation non-hazardous under normal use conditions. Carcinogenicity None of the components present in this material at concentrations equal to or greater than 0.1% are listed by IARC, NTP, or OSHA, as a carcinogen. IARC rated as "non-classifiable as to its carcinogenicity for animals or humans" (Class III). NOTE: Pigment is bound and encapsulated with polymer creating minimal chance of pigment to become airborne unless the fiber itself is mechanically ground, cut, chopped, etc.
