SECTION 2: Hazards identification
Hazard statements
Harmful · Information pertaining to particular dangers for man and environment: Harmful by inhalation. Irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin. May cause sensitisation by inhalation and skin contact. Contains isocyanates. See information supplied by the manufacturer. Only for trade users / technical specialists Keep out of the reach of children.
Classification system
The classification is in line with internationally approved calculation standards. It is expanded, however, by information from technical literature and by information furnished by supplier companies. · NFPA ratings (scale 0 - 4) Health = 2 1 Fire = 1 2 1 Reactivity = 1 · HMIS-ratings (scale 0 - 4) HEALTH *2 Health = *2 FIRE 1 Fire = 1 REACTIVITY 1 Reactivity = 1 (Contd. of page 1)
Additional information
Warning! Harmful if inhaled. May cause respiratory tract irritation. May cause allergic respiratory reaction. May cause skin irritation. May cause allergic skin reaction. may cause eye irritation. Avoid temperatures above 105F (41C). Toxic flammable gasses and heat are released under decomposition. Toxic fumes may be released in fire situations. Reacts slowly with water, releasing gases which can cause pressure build up and rupture of closed containers. Elevated temperatures accelerate this reaction. Elevated temperatures can cause hazardous polymerization. Isolate area. Keep upwind of spill.
Potential health effects
Eye Contact: May cause moderate eye irritation. May cause slight temporary corneal injury. Skin Contact/Absorption/Sensitization: Prolonged contact may cause slight skin irritation with local redness. May stain skin. Prolonged skin contact is unlikely to result in absorption of harmful amounts. Skin contact may cause allergic skin reaction. Animal studies have shown skin contact with isocyanates may play a role in respiratory sensitization. Ingestion: Low toxicity if swallowed. Harmful effects not anticipated from swallowing small amounts. Inhalation: At room temperature, vapors are minimal due to low volatility. However, certain operations (spraying, pumping, heating etc...)may generate vapor or aerosol concentrations sufficient to cause irritation or other adverse effects. Excessive exposure may cause irritation to the upper respiratory tract, lungs, and pulmonary edema. Effects may be delayed. Decreased lung function has been associated with isocyanate overexposure. May cause allergic respiratory response. MDI concentrations below the exposure guidelines may cause allergic respiratory reactions.
