Hazard statements
H373: May cause damage to lung through prolonged or repeated exposure by inhalation.
Precautionary statements
P260: Do not breathe dust. P285: In case of inadequate ventilation wear respiratory protection. P501: Dispose of contents/containers in accordance with local regulation.
2.3 Other hazards
Quartz is an inorganic substance and does not meet the criteria for PBT or vPvB in accordance with Annex XIII of REACH. Quartz is not included in the Candidate List of substances of very high concern for Authorisation. Quartz is not identified as having endocrine disrupting properties in accordance with the criteria set out in Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/2100 or Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/605.
2.1 Classification of the substance or mixture
This product may contain a quartz fine fraction (< 5 µm) in amounts (quantities) as indicated below* and therefore should be classified as STOT RE 2 according to criteria defined in the Regulation EC 1272/2008. Classification Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP): STOT RE 2 * The relevant fine fraction of quartz in this product is between 1 and 10 % (for methods see literature references points 5 and 6 in section 16). Respirable crystalline silica (RCS) should, according to criteria defined in the Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, be classified as STOT RE 1 (specific target organ toxicity, repeated exposure inhalation, category 1). Depending on the type of handling and use (e.g. fine crushing/ grinding, drying), airborne respirable crystalline silica may be generated. Inhalation of respirable quartz may, dependent on the duration and extent of exposure, cause risk for silicosis. Risk of chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) is also suspected. Occupational exposure to respirable crystalline silica dust should be monitored and controlled. © COPYRIGHT ELKEM ASA 2022
