Potential health effects
Inhalation of p-Phenylenediamine may cause irritation of the nose and throat with sneezing, sore throat or runny nose; nonspecific discomfort, such as nausea, headache, or weakness; and an asthma-like reaction with shortness of breath, wheezing or cough, which may occur after re-exposure to very low levels. Skin contact with p-Phenylenediamine may cause skin irritation with discomfort or rash. Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause skin sensitization with allergic skin rashes. Evidence suggests that p-Phenylenediamine may be absorbed through the skin in amounts capable of causing toxic effects. Eye contact with p-Phenylenediamine may cause eye irritation with tearing, pain or blurred vision. Ingestion of p-Phenylenediamine may cause nonspecific discomfort, such as nausea, headache, or weakness. Ingestion large amounts of p-Phenylenediamine has been reported to cause vomiting, muscle degeneration, and visible swelling of the face and neck. In severe cases, the inside of the throat can swell enough to make breathing difficult. Animal data suggest higher or repeated exposures to p-Phenylenediamine may cause abnormal liver or kidney function as detected by laboratory tests, or gastrointestinal tract irritation. Increased susceptibility to the effects of p-Phenylenediamine may be observed in persons with pre-existing disease of the skin, liver, kidneys, or lungs. *** This product may contain 4-Aminodiphenyl at <1.0 ppm *** Carcinogenicity Information The following components are listed by IARC NTP
